The N.C. Department of Transportation is developing the Public Transportation Statewide Strategic Plan to improve bus, rail, and paratransit services across the state by better matching transit services to the needs of North Carolinians. Stakeholders and the public are invited to provide input at community workshops across the state as part of the North Carolina Public Transportation Statewide Strategic Plan. The workshops are free and open to the public. No registration is necessary to attend. Community workshop dates, times, and locations are available on the project website -

ACTA to begin "Zone Scheduling" starting March 2017

Beginning in March 2017, ACTA will be changing their process for providing transportation services to the general public. Historically ACTA has accommodated riders with trip services at any time requested. This service has been convenient for riders (like taxi service) but at a higher delivery cost than ideal.

Under the new Zone Scheduling approach:

  • ACTA vehicles are assigned to zones based on historical trip demand. Zones with higher trip history are assigned the most vehicles and zones with less frequent trips are assigned fewer vehicles.
  • The times that vehicles are available in each zone are listed on a schedule provided to each rider based on their home address.
  • Riders should refer to their published zone schedules (see below) for bus availability originating in their respective home zone when planning trips and reservations.
  • Riders should call (336) 222-0565 to make trip reservations.
  • Riders may schedule trips up to two weeks in advance but at least one day advance reservation required with 11:00 AM EST cut-off for next day trip.
  • No trip service is provided the same day of the request.

ACTA will offer you the best reservation time possible. However, your exact pick-up time requested may not be available.

ACTA Receives Autogas Alternative Fuel Award

AwardAlamance County Transportation Authority Executive Director Ralph Gilliam announced that ACTA has been named as a winner of the 2016 PERC Propane Autogas Fleet Award.  ACTA is one of only six transit agencies nationally to win the award in 2016. ACTA converted 16 of its 27 fleet vehicles from gasoline fuel to alternative propane fuel during the past year. This move benefits the local environment by reducing greenhouse emissions and also contributes to lower fuel costs for ACTA. This award is presented annually at the BusCon Event held in Indianapolis Indiana by the Propane Education and Research Council.

Jon Mitchell, ACTA Operations Manager, accepted the award on behalf of ACTA at the event held September 21, 2016 in Indianapolis. The project culminates a strategic planning process that began in 2014. The ACTA Board of Directors and ACTA’s administrative staff (Executive Director Ralph Gilliam, Accounting/HR Manager Dave Cummings, and Operations Manager Jon Mitchell) were able to apply for and obtain a combined federal/state grant award to fund the project.
